The exam date for the CLAT 2026 is December 7, 2025. The online registration for CLAT 2026 began on August 1 and continued till November 7, 2025. The CLAT 2026 admit card will soon be released in the third week of November 2025.

The registration period was initially planned to end on October 31, 2025, but was later extended to November 7. The last date to pay the registration fee was November 9, 2025, till 11.59 PM. The correction window was launched on November 5, and students were allowed to rectify errors in their application form till November 9, 2025.

As per the CLAT 2026 notification released on July 20, 2025, candidates had until November 7, 2025, to submit their applications. Candidates who registered for the exam will be able to download their admit cards and take the exam.

One can access the CLAT 2026 admit card by visiting the CLAT official website at consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The registration fee for the general category was INR 4,000, while those in the SC, ST, and BPL categories had to pay INR 3,500.

The CLAT 2026 exam will feature 120 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) across all 5 sections, including English, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Mathematics, and General Knowledge, including Current Affairs. The exam will have a maximum of 120 marks, and it will last for 2 hours from 2 PM to 4 PM on Sunday.

What is the CLAT 2026 Exam?

The Common Law Admission Test, or CLAT, is a central-level entrance exam that determines admission to law courses in top public and private colleges in India. The NLU Consortium coordinates it.

The CLAT 2026 results will be used to shortlist candidates for admission to 3-year LLB programs, 1-year Post-graduate LLM programs, and five-year integrated LLB (BA LLB, BBA LLB, B. Com LLB) programs.

Examinees must pass to be admitted to 24 UG and 21 PG courses offered by the NLUs. Committee Formed for CLAT 2026

The Consortium of NLUs recently established an expert group for CLAT 2027 improvements; however, no specialized CLAT 2026 committee has been established for this year. Will there be another CLAT exam in 2025?

No, the CLAT exam only takes place once a year. It won’t happen again in 2025. The law admission for the academic year 2026–2027 will be based on the CLAT 2026 scores. The CLAT 2027 exam will take place in December 2026 for the academic year 2027-28. Last year, a revised CLAT 2025 result was released again in May 2025 after the court orders, which was initially released on December 7, 2024.

To apply for the undergraduate law courses, you need to meet the following CLAT eligibility criteria:

There is no maximum age for the UG Program.
If you fall under any of the following categories—General, OBC, PWD, NRI, PIO, or OCI—you must have finished your 10+2 or equivalent exam with at least 45% of the aggregate marks after the official notice.
You need to have received at least 40% of the aggregate marks if you are an SC/ST member.
Students who want to sit for the 10+2 test in March or April of 2026 are also qualified to apply.

CLAT 2026 Eligibility Criteria for PG Program

To get admission to elite law universities' post-graduate programs, such as the Master of Laws, candidates must pass the PG exam.

No Age restrictions for admission to PG courses.
Individuals who fall under any of the following categories: General, OBC, PWD, NRI, PIO, or OCI—must have earned at least 50% of their LLB degree or an equivalent grade.
As per the official announcement, individuals who fall under the SC/ST categories are required to have obtained 45% or higher in an LLB degree or a comparable grade.

CLAT 2026 Admit Card

The CLAT 2026 Admit Card will be made available by the consortium of NLUs at least 15 days before the exam date, probably in the third week of November 2025. It will be released soon since the registrations are over. The admit card will remain accessible till the day of the exam. The CLAT 2026 answer key will be made available by the Consortium of NLUs a few days after the test is administered, probably in the Second week of December 2025. Candidates can get the CLAT 2026 answer key from the official website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in.

The NLU Consortium will be in charge of releasing the preliminary answer key for CLAT 2026, followed by the release of the final answer key. To find inconsistencies between the exam paper and the CLAT answer key, the exam authority will allow students to object.

The answer key will be used by the candidates to calculate their estimated scores in the exam.

CLAT Results 2026

The date for the CLAT 2026 results has not been released by the Consortium of NLUs. However, the Consortium plans to release the CLAT 2026 Results a few days after the test is over, probably in the third or last week of December 2025.

Candidates should know that the CLAT results will be determined by using the CLAT final answer key. Once the disputes raised by the candidates are resolved, the final answer key is made public.

The qualifying status of each test-taker, along with the CLAT results, will be available on the official website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Candidates will also be able to get the scorecard by logging in.

CLAT Cut-Off Marks

The Consortium takes into account several factors when setting the CLAT cut-off, including the exam's difficulty level, the number of seats available, and the number of students taking the exam.

1] Opening and Closing Ranks by Category:

General: There is a large variation in the range; top NLUs, such as NLU Bangalore, have a starting rank of 1 and a closing rank of 84.
OBC: There is greater depth in the opening and closing ranks. For instance, NALSAR Hyderabad starts at 189 and increases to 1076.

2] Top 3 NLU Admission Cut-offs:

NLU Bangalore: The general category's cut-off range is 1-84.
NALSAR Hyderabad: The range for the general category is 6-158.
NLU Kolkata: The cut-off point for general categories is between 140 and 262.

CLAT 2026 Merit List

The merit list is usually released by the Consortium of NLU after the results.

On the official website, the CLAT Merit List will only be available for UG and PG separately.

A distinct merit list for each counselling round will be released to the public.
The Merit List is prepared using the exam results of all candidates, with the highest scores going first and the lowest scores coming last.
It includes the category-by-category merit rank of the exam-qualified applicant.
Your admit card number, All India Rank, and the total number of points you scored in the admission exam are all listed on the merit list.

CLAT Exam Analysis

Every year, entrance to undergraduate and graduate law colleges is determined by the Common Law Admission Test. You can learn more about the exam's difficulty level, the number of reasonable attempts, and other things from the analysis.

This is a quick analysis of the UG exam from the prior year:

Most test-takers felt that the CLAT 2025 exam was more approachable.
Several students thought it was easier than the papers from prior years.
Instead of covering the standard topics, the General Knowledge section focused more on current events and included a small number of static GK questions.
Even though Legal Reasoning was mostly simple, there were a few challenging questions.
The English component was the easiest to tackle; however, there were a few challenging questions.
In terms of logical reasoning, it was balanced, easy to understand, and doable.

CLAT 2026 Counselling

Following the announcement of the merit list, the counselling process starts. CLAT counselling is done online. It will probably start in the third week of December 2025 or early January 2026.

You must pay Rs. 30,000 online for the General Category and Rs. 20,000 online for the ST, SC, OBC, BC, EWS, PWD, and other restricted categories to register for the counselling procedure. This amount is totally refundable if you are allotted a seat.

After the initial preliminary list is made public, you have to select one of the following three options:

Please take the allotted seat (Freeze Option).
Request an Upgrade with the Float Option.
Reject the application (Reject Option)
If you select the first option, you will need to pay the required amount to the designated NLU and upload all necessary documentation.
Go with the second choice, which is to accept the upgrade. You must upload your documents on time and pay the necessary fees (specified in the CLAT Notification) to the designated university.
Selecting the last option will result in the loss of the assigned seat and disqualify you from consideration for future assignments. If a seat has not been assigned to you, you may still choose this option.
