CAT 2024 Syllabus: Highlights and Exam Pattern

CAT exam 2024 will field 66 questions with a weightage of 3 marks each and students must finish all the questions within the allotted time of 2 hours divided into 40-minuteslots for each section, which is the same as last year.Below are the 3 main sections of the CAT 2024 Syllabus:

  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension: This section addresses reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and English grammar.
  • Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning: Class 9 and 10 math subjects are covered, including mensuration, geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and arithmetic.
  • Quantitative Ability: In this section, data is analyzed using bar graphs, tables, puzzles, and pie charts.

PwD candidates receive slightly more than 50 minutes per segment, compared to 40 minutes for candidates. While moving between sections is permitted, the order in which the sections can be completed is predefined. Students have 40 minutes to complete the sections, marking questions for review and returning to them later.

MCQs and TITA-style questions are the two types of questions that are asked in the CAT, and both should be covered in your CAT 2024 syllabus. When attempting multiple-choice questions (MCQs), wrong answers result in a -1 negative marking; TITA questions do not carry a negative marking.

CAT 2024 Syllabus for DILR

Students must work on their ability to complete this section within the allotted time as it comprises 20 questions (8 TITA and 12 MCQs) and 40 minutes to answer them all. While logical reasoning questions are focused on visual aids such as math puzzles, games, grids, calendars, seating arrangements, and directions, data interpretation questions typically come from Venn diagrams, line graphs, bar graphs, pie charts, and word problems.

Very few questions are offered as standalone; the majority are delivered in sets of four. Students can easily achieve good scores in this part if they approach each type of question with the proper strategy.
